Project Greenhouse

The house rehab is almost done. We met with our builder today to start making plans for our new garage, to be constructed Spring 2012. The upstairs will be my husband's new fencing studio. The south side of the garage will feature a combination greenhouse/honey house.

Scored this pair of light shades for $4.99 each. When you look at them the first thing you see is flowers. Not sure exactly how we are going to use them yet but the plan is hanging potters for orchids. Plan B is hanging saucers for potted plants. Either way I think they will look great in our new greenhouse.

Husband says he does not like junking but sometimes he finds some great stuff he loves! He scored this lot of plastic tubing and metal chains for $25. The plan is to use both in the new green house. The tubing will be great for irrigation. The chain may work with the lamp shades to make the new hanging pots/saucers. Additional use for the chain will be to suspend planters from the ceiling/walls? In the meantime both of these items will have to be stored in the garage. Finding a deal often involves searching for things before you realize you are looking for them. Check back to see how this one works out.

The rake heads have lost their handles and are officially retired (as rakes). Their new life will start once they are mounted to the greenhouse wall. The plan is to use them as hooks to hold garden tools/hive tools where they are needed. I like the current look so a good cleaning to remove loose rust will be followed by a clear coat of Rustoleum to seal the look. Total cost for the pair $3. Updates to follow when project is completed.

Purely decorative! I have no intention of using it but I could not resist it. (Did I mention my favorite colour is green?) Plan to hang it on the greenhouse wall. Paid $2

Approached a friendly gentleman who asked me what I was looking for. It was the kind of shop where true junk existed and anything was possible. I asked for shut off values and he delivered. He grinned ear to ear and was pleased I asked. Told me he had been saving them awhile waiting for the right person to come along. In there next life these will be hooks in the greenhouse/honey house. Scored the lot for $6. Lots of different styles and colours to add interest.  My only regret is there is no green. (Might have to get out the Rustoleum!)
